John's System

I follow this integrated, 12-stage process to ensure the best, safest and fastest result for your dream kitchen.

Stage 1

I meet with you at your home to identify your needs, preferences and priorities. I recommend completing the handy Design Questionnaire from my web site before our appointment.

Important: If you’re a couple, it’s vital that I meet with both partners to clearly understand everyone’s point of view and to avoid little known design booby traps that can sabotage your new kitchen. This can be the single biggest problem area in the entire process if it’s ignored.

Stage 2

Together, we develop a concept that meets your needs and uses my professional knowledge and skills to ensure the best value for the result.

Stage 3

Visit the factory or showroom of the manufacturer I’ve recommended to finalise the concept, add any optional features to make life easier, choose materials and finishes, and complete the project specifications while everything’s fresh in everyone’s minds — a very important aspect of this visit.

Note: If you live outside the Melbourne metropolitan area, or are unable to meet at the factory or showroom, a complete mobile interior design and specification service is available.

Stage 4

Plan the use of trades people in detail. This may include structural alterations, electrical, plumbing, plastering, tiling, stone benchtops, glass splashbacks, floor coverings and painting.

Stage 5

I produce a detailed project costing for your approval.

Stage 6

I prepare detailed plans and specifications ready for manufacture and present you with a complete project summary, including the proposed installation schedule.

Stage 7

We review all technical details, including check measuring of the site, just to be doubly sure that everything’s 100% accurate. (The classic Carpenter’s Rule: “measure twice, cut once!”)

Stage 8

Manufacture of cabinetry, delivery of appliances and other items required to complete the project.

Stage 9

The site is prepared, including structural alterations (if any), stripping out of the old kitchen and roughing-in of plumbing and electrical work. At this stage, any unforeseen problems such as leaks, dampness. rotten floors or faulty wiring, will make themselves known.

Stage 10

Install your new kitchen – including cabinetry, appliances, sinks, taps, tiles, etc and clean up the project, including final adjustments to door hinges and drawer runners.

Stage 11

I complete a final inspection and hand over your dream kitchen to you!

Stage 12

I check back with you within the first three months from handover to ensure that everything is as it should be and, if necessary, take appropriate action to rectify any problems.
